It was great! I will update about it eventually. But today, I met Sonni Abatta. She is even more luminous in person. I also met the lovely Alison Morris. KDKA news team's finest! Out shopping together as news ladies often do.
 (second from right)
When I saw Sonni, I squealed to Chris "SONNI ABATTA!" and when she saw us, she squealed, "CHRIS!" who went to high school with her.
Allegedly, (at least according to his bff's from high school) she had a crush on him when they were in school together...
I told him if he decides he needs to take our boombox and hang out in front of her house in the rain, I'd totally understand.

| am I the same girl? |
[16 Sep 2008|12:30am] |
Chris kept humming the horn part, and finally asked me, "what is that song?... ya know the one with no lyrics?" And I sang the parts I knew from "am I the same girl?" And he said, "it doesn't have lyrics." So I showed him this Barbara Acklin's youtube version and Dusty Springfield's too. But then he just showed me the Young Holt Unlimited instrumental and blew my mind.
I asked him why he was thinking about this song and he said he thinks about it most of the time. Which slays me with its adorable hilarity. It is called "Soulful Strut" when it is sans vocal track and he "thinks about it when he is strutting."
I guess we are both right about this song, even though Barbara Acklin's voice was removed from the Young Holt one and the piano track was brought up in its place.

Chris and I decided in August to postpone our move in date so we could paint and refinish the floor in the kitchen. I am glad we did it but it meant major crunch time for Chris. Luckily Matty came to help. I will post photos of the kitchen with stuff in it soon... I haven't taken any except to show the new blind!

Two of the five roman blinds came yesterday. They look way nice for being insanely cheap! I can't wait to install them. I need to read the instructions and see if I can do it myself today while Chris is at work/class. I also realized I should be taking more photos of the house while we get shit in order but I keep forgetting where my camera is so I keep not doing it.
My parents want to come see it this weekend finally. They wanted to come earlier but I was nervous to have them come when things were so disheveled and still in boxes. The living room is not ready (see the reason below) but all the other rooms are well on their way to being ready.
Finally it is raining here. I've been back in pittsburgh for weeks and it really hasn't til now. Feels like home officially...
Last night I had to teach which went really well then I came home and Chris had been super productive and built all the attic bedroom/library furniture so we spent the night setting up shit and it looks so good, I am shocked! We just need to get another rug for near the books, and bring our desk chair from his parents to be set up!
The house is coming together but there's constantly a zillion projects I want to do so it is annoying to have a productive day but feel like there was always more I could have done.
Our armoire for the living room tv needs to be an inch narrower to fit in the spot it needs to go in, so tonight Chris and his bff since childhood who is an architect will try to figure out how to take it apart and rebuild it or make the legs taller so it works in the space. I personally just want to sell it on craigslist and get a taller but narrower one... but if these dudes wanna be dudely then by all means.

Chris and I are getting up at 6:30 to head over and get in line at UHaul to pick up our 24 foot truck on the biggest moving day of the year in Pittsburgh. Ugh.
And we are using every last minute to prep the house. I spent the day painting the bedroom. Chris sanded the last cracks he spackled and primed/painted those. I cleaned the shit out of the living room and murphys oil soaped the floors downstairs. The little room was already cleaned. And Chris's mom will be over tomorrow morning to swiffer and murphys oil soap the floors in the big bedroom while we load the truck with stuff in her garage. I would do it now but I fear I will become even more useless and crabby tomorrow if I don't go to bed asap. Still wishing I could fast forward to Sunday. Or even next week.
I can't stomach the mini blinds any longer and they are IMPOSSIBLE to clean (since the plastic is super old so I can't snap them out and dip them in a tub of soapy water like they do on "How Clean is Your House" so I have to clean them blind by blind). I ordered Roman Blinds for all the windows on the second floor and the kitchen.

I can't wait to put them up! We are going to use Chris's nice curtains in the living room for now (though they're sort of neutral and it would be nice to bring in some color eventually). And I will figure out another solution for the attic.

We moved back the move to do more housework. I am going to be in Pittsburgh this weekend to paint and pull up the vinyl floors in the kitchen. We are going to finish the wood in there if it is in decent shape. Otherwise, I guess we will tile.
Anyway, I wanted to post before and after pics of what Chris has done so far. He spent the last few weeks stripping paint, sanding, replacing rotted planks, and sealing. Here is what the floors looked like before, upstairs (ubiquitous grey paint everywhere... yuck!):
This is the master bedroom. We want to refinish the hearth eventually. ( Read more... )

I have been thinking a lot about fake television birthday songs. And I have gotten it down to two all-time favorites.
Spirit Journey Formation Anniversary from Aqua Teen Hunger Force (snippet can be heard here): http://sjfa.ytmnd.com/
But this one from the Simpsons reigns as probably my favorite of all time. I have randomly sung it all month. It's from an episode called Radio Bart. He's at some Chucky Cheese type place where the animatronic robots sing him a birthday song and it goes:
You're the birthday You're the birthday you're the birthday Boy or girl.
And then it ends. It's really awful sounding because the robots sound like they're breaking. I sang it all month to speck and chris.
Here's a youtube link:
I love how lazy and impersonal it is.

| Speck Gets a Bath Aftermath: A photo retrospective |
[29 Apr 2008|05:36pm] |
I should have taken pics "before" but suffice it to say she needed one. And since Chris and I were changing the sheets and it was time to begin frontline, last night was the night. Speck is never a smelly dog (thankfully) but she was starting to smell suspiciously like a frito.
She tried to make many escapes:

Myron Cope's dahntahn tribute happened on a day with pretty insane weather (typical of Pittsburgh). But people still came out in droves to wave the towel at city hall to honor the man who brought so much joy to Steeler nation.

40. quote a song lyric that sums up your year: "I laugh more often now. I cry more often now. I am more me." (cliched perhaps but so accurate)

| Punished for being shallow |
[20 Nov 2007|01:10am] |
I was trying to take outfit of the day photos and my camera fell off my little make shift stand (less than one foot) onto a small ikea table. The LCD cracked. Everything else works. It still takes photos and the backlight, lens, and flash are cool. But the display is all wonky looking. I doubt warranty will cover it because it did fall (albeit not very far). So I have to either figure out how to install a new display so that I can save some loot or just edit my xmas list so I can ask someone for a camera.
First world problems.
